Alright everyone, the moment you’ve been waiting for! We’ve been hearing about all of the difference places bed bugs have been popping up all over NYC, but what exactly are the highest profile places to have been infested? Maybe we’ll go through to reminisce or maybe you’re just curious about anywhere you might have missed the memo about, either way here it goes.

We’ll start with one of the most obvious and famous ones: the Empire State Building. I’m sure you’ve all heard it in passing, but how bad was it? According to reports, the bed bugs were actually confined rather quickly to a small area accessible only to staff. Sorry to disappoint, but images of the iconic being overrun but these tiny guys were only in your head. Don’t get me wrong, a few bed bugs is still worse than no bed bugs; I still can’t help but be impressed with an effective reaction.

Let’s group the next couple together as public places run by major companies. First, retail: Bloomingdale’s, Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, and Victoria’s Secret. We’ve been hearing for a while now how susceptible retail stores are, and we’ve heard about the various cases over time, but it’s staggering when you see them all together in a list. Is nowhere sacred anymore?? In the same vein of public as retail stores, we come across the AMC movie theatre that had an infestation. Considered the busiest theatre in the country, it’s hard to imagine that management let a situation develop. But then again that’s the lesson we gain from this instance, the problem can appear all
over.

So many jobs in NYC now-a-days lead us into an environment where we never leave a single room. For many of us, this is unenjoyable torture that brings home a paycheck. But then let’s consider those people who have glamorous jobs that allow them to travel: media. Time Warner Center, Elle magazine, and Fox News have all had their own cases of bed bugs! Maybe going between two safe, bed bug free places everyday isn’t so bad after all.

So we have retail stores, movie theatres, and news media: these private companies not taking responsibility for cleanliness are killing us! But wait, where else was it that we saw infestations? That’s right! The New York Public Library and the Department of Health! Surprised? You’re not alone. Then there’s this fun fact: this is the second time the Department of Health has needed to shut its doors for bed bugs in the past two years! That doesn’t sound like somewhere I’ll be going concerning my health any time soon.

So there you have it, the highest profile places that bed bugs have been discovered in NYC. To recap quick we have: the Empire State Building, Bloomingdale’s, Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Victoria’s Secret, AMC Movie Theatre, Time Warner Center, Elle, Fox News, New York City Public Library, and the Department of Health. Congratulations bed bugs, not too shabby.
